Why Do People Live In Highlands Ranch?
The People Have Spoken
If you are new to the Denver area you may not be familiar with the various suburbs, urban neighborhoods, and pocket areas. However, it won't take long for you to hear about Highlands Ranch. After all, that's probably how you found this website, right?
What's so great about Highlands Ranch? Well, we conducted a survey and found out from the residents themselves.
There’s an ongoing discussion about the better places to live around Denver. Do you go with an upscale trendy neighborhood like Wash Park? Or will life be better in the Suburbs? While that’s an internal decision only you can make, here are a few reasons why some people chose Highlands Ranch.
Here’s What A Few Residents Are Saying About Why They Moved To Highlands Ranch
The children “...are having the time of their lives at Civic Green Park. What an amazing place! We brought our kids there today because I’d been to the Farmer’s Market at Town Center and wanted my husband to see it. What a great place for kids. A river to play in, a wading pool with fountains, a sprayground, a really cool playground, open space to run, mountain views - the library right next door - with a drive through book return (be still my beating heart). And so many kids having a fabulous time. I love this place!!!!! “
”...Why the Highlands Ranch appeal for our family? Because it is a safe, very active community where we can buy a house we will love for the next 20 years. Because it has great schools and many community activities/events, but is large enough to not feel too incestuous. Because we were blown away by the 4 rec centers. Because it is a 10 minute commute from work. Because of easy light rail access. Because it isn’t too far out to cause us concern with resale a couple decades down the road. And surprisingly enough, we like many of the houses. Like any other new community, much of the architecture is limited (within neighborhoods) to a few main models and 3-4 elevations of each of those - but I’m creative enough with landscaping and decorating that I’m not dependent upon a vast variety door to door for my character. That’s why it appeals to us.”
”...I think too I’ve done the 1920’s Arts and Crafts home thing before…can you say money pit? And time pit too! I’d rather put my money into college funds these days than trying to deal with maintaining/renovating an older home. And I’d rather put my time into my family than an aging home. Will houses in Highlands Ranch age? Sure…but I’d rather deal with 5-15 year maintenance issues than 80 year old issues. For me, the “charm” of an older home isn’t so charming having been there and done that.”
”...we didn’t know to even expect this - but if you have kids, you aren’t even going to believe what ‘family-friendly’ means here compared to NJ. For example…let’s take swimming. Where I lived in NJ, in order to join a pool, you usually had to pay some enormous bond to enter, then $$$ each season to continue. If you wanted an indoor pool, you could join the Y - which cost quite a bit each year - and you’d get access to a lane pool and an open pool with three diving boards at the deep end. Here in HR, included in our HOA fee of $60 per month is access to something like 10 different indoor pools - with full playgrounds in the pool, lazy rivers, giant multi-story water slides - and 6 more outdoor pools during the summer. It’s incredible! Other classes/activities/events tend to have fees similar to NJ Y rates, but there are soooo many to chose from. “
”... it is just unbelievable to see what our property taxes are…”
”...The other thing you’ll appreciate then is the traffic. Since Highlands Ranch is planned out, every main road is at least six lanes wide, so it flows very smoothly - and every intersection has a dedicated left turn lane with a left turn signal light. So while there’s still plenty of traffic, it’s lovely by comparison!”
“We chose Highlands Ranch because what we got for $400k is WAY better than what you get in the ‘trendy’ areas. It’s almost double the size. I would rather have a large master bathroom with my own sink and space to get ready in the morning than feeling like I’m part of the hip crowd with only one bathroom in the house!”
“Because of the quality of life for my kids and traqnuility, the schools, the neighborhoods are fantastic…the green spaces, the clean areas, you have everything you need and if you miss the buzz, you’re just minutes away.”
I hope this information helps those of you that are considering a move to the Denver area.
